Anna Johnson, President and Founder
Anna Johnson, founder of Harmonic Youth Orchestra, has been playing violin for over a decade, studying under Dr. Gregory Fried. Anna has won festival awards in San Diego, New York, and New Orleans, and has served as the concert mistress in several orchestras. She also plays tenor saxophone in the UCLA Marching Band. Anna founded the organization in 2017 and continues to oversee the organization’s chapters located nationally, run the HYO-UCLA chapter, and organize scholarships and summer programs. Anna is a public policy major and public health minor at UCLA and aspires to serve as a lawyer in the U.S. Navy and work for state and local governments while continuing to manage Harmonic Youth Orchestra.
Rachel Fox, Chapter Vice President
Rachel Fox has been playing the alto saxophone since she was nine years old, and for the past three years she has been the principal alto saxophonist of Agoura High School’s Wind Ensemble Honors. Outside of school, she has won multiple awards in local- and state-level solo and ensemble festivals. She has also been vice-president of her school’s chapter of Tri-M Music Honors Society, a three-subject academic tutor and science competition team vice president, and the executive officer of Wind Ensemble for the Agoura chapter of HYO. Next year she will be attending UCLA to major in neuroscience on the premed track, and she will be continuing playing the saxophone through wind ensembles and chamber groups. She is so excited to be on the UCLA board!
Peter Agban, Board Member
Peter Agban has been playing saxophone for over seven years and has participated in several ensembles, including but not limited to lead Tenor in UCLA Latin Jazz Ensemble, The Santa Clarita Jazz All Stars, and The District Honor Band. He has also competed in several competitions such as the SCSBOA Classical/Jazz/Ensemble Festival, and the CBDA Jazz Festival. Outside of competing, he lead his marching band as senior drum major and recruited the High School’s first jazz combo. Peter now continues his chapter as an Aerospace Engineer at the University of California, Los Angeles and will continue to pursue music alongside his major. He is thrilled to be apart of the HYO UCLA chapter. ​
